IRELAND'S leading male model is set to make history by walking the runway in New York Fashion Week.

Gary Talbot (22), from Ballyfermot in Dublin, will be the first Irish male model to do so in the style event of the year. He already walked in London Fashion Week in February.

This week, he will be making history by working with Tom Ford, whom he met on a shoot last year, and a number of up and coming designers.

"I'm incredibly excited for New York," he said. "I was the first Irish male model to do London Fashion Week, so this is a great step for me. It's funny because I've been flat out with work in the last year, as long as I've been modelling really."

Gary was spotted by supermodel and Britain and Ireland's Next Top Model judge Tyson Beckford two years ago during a scouting visit.

His career has moved apace with modelling work in London, where he's based, and New York.

Gary is signed with Assets in Dublin and SUPA Model Management in London and is in the process of signing with Tyson's agency in New York.

Last year, 18-year-old Irish model Danielle Winckwirtg walked New York Fashion Week for DKNY, Rachel Zoe and Rachel Roy.

Gary will be writing an exclusive diary for Independent.ie during New York Fashion Week with backstage pictures, gossip and updates. Check out Independent.ie for more.
