Irish duo held after drunken rampage in the Algarve
TWO Irish tourists have been arrested after a drunken rampage in a hotel in which a policeman was attacked with a knife.
The men – aged 28 and 36 – were held after televisions, chairs and bottles were hurled from their balcony, causing thousands of euro in damages.
Portuguese armed riot police were called to Oura Praia Hotel in the heart of the lively Algarve resort of Albufeira.
They smashed down the holidaymakers' hotel door after they barricaded themselves inside.
One man allegedly tried to stab a police officer, who deflected the blow with his riot shield, before the tourists were overpowered and arrested.
State prosecutors will decide whether to press charges against the pair.
A source at the hotel said the younger man had gone "completely crazy".
