Irish beef proves a hit for charity calendar
A GROUP of Irish farmers are shedding their shirts -- but not their wellies -- for a new charity calendar.
The men appear topless alongside pitchforks, bales of hay, pigs and sheep in the tongue-in-cheek calendar for Bothar, which is raising funds to help other farmers in the developing world.
But unlike the volunteers featured in other charity calenders, our modest farmers are unwilling to do the 'full-monty', with most reserving their modesty by keeping their jeans, wellies and sometimes their caps firmly in place.
Dave Robinson, on the cover of the calendar with friends James Hind and Andrew Nuzun, decided to take part in the shoot for "a bit of craic". "The slagging the three of us are getting is unbelievable," he added.
The woman behind the calendar, Ciara Ryan, came up with idea after being made redundant two years ago. She said a substantial number of calendars had been sold in Germany. "They (Germans) love a bit of Irish beef," she said.
