A TWO-year-old Irish boy has drowned on the Costa del Sol after falling off a wall into a neighbour’s swimming pool.

The youngster’s worried parents rang police to report him missing but moments later discovered his body.

It is thought the tragic accident occurred after he lost his balance as he walked along a wall separating his family home from a neighbouring property which was empty at the time.

He was discovered around 10.45am today in a neighbourhood called El Coto in Mijas Costa near to Fuengirola.

His expat dad needed medical attention after collapsing.

Local Civil Guard officers have launched an investigation.

A source said: “Everything is pointing towards this being the result of a tragic accident.

“The boy was Irish but he was not on holiday. His parents live in Spain.

“They had phoned the local police moments before he was found to report him missing.”

It was originally thought the police had discovered his body - but one local paper said his dad had pulled him out of the water and made a desperate attempt to revive him.

Paramedics were called to the scene. Local police, Civil Guard and firefighters also attended.

El Coto residential area is just one kilometre from Fuengirola and has a supermarket, chemist and three restaurants.

Villas and apartments in the area are popular with holidaymakers.
