Investigation underway after house gas leak

AN investigation is under way into the cause of a gas leak at a house in Co Dublin.

The incident was reported shortly after midday.

Bord Gais staff made safe a leak in a gas pipe in a family home in Bella Place, located off Buckingham Street.

Bord Gais immediately cut off the gas supply into the house, and a small fire in the house was extinguished.

Adjoining houses were evacuated for a time as a precaution.

A spokesperson for An Bord Gais confirmed that it was requested by Dublin City Fire Brigade to attend at a fire-related incident at the property on in Dublin 1 at 12.40pm.

"A Bord Gáis Networks fitter was on site at 13.05pm and assisted the fire brigade in bringing the fire under control," the spokesperson said.

The gas supply to the property was isolated, enabling the fire to be extinguished.

It is planned to have the customer’s gas supply returned later today, the spokesperson said.
