An investigation is underway following the discovery of what appears to be human remains close to St James's Hospital.
The remains were discovered after a tree uprooted near Grand Canal View at the rear of the south inner city hospital at approximately 3pm today.
Gardai from Kilmainham Garda Station preserved the scene and have launched an investigation.
A forensic anthropologist will examine the remains tomorrow.
"It still has to be established if the remains are human," a garda spokesperson said.
It's believed the remains have been there for some time.
Gardai say it could be historic, as opposed to anything more recent.
