THE PSNI has promised to investigate how a police landrover ended up in County Donegal.

Former Donegal Mayor Frank McBrearty has demanded a Garda investigation into the “international incident” in the Border town of Lifford today

The PSNI jeep was seen driving back towards the North and the Tyrone town of Strabane.

“I am calling for an investigation into why they entered our jurisdiction especially with the threat from dissidents,” said Cllr McBrearty.

“This is an international incident and should be fully investigated. What would of happened if dissidents had of opened fire on the PSNI in broad daylight in Lifford where citizens of our country are going about their daily business.?

“This unprofessional behaviour cannot be tolerated by our State.”

Cllr McBrearty was given the picture by a member of Donegal County Council who had been in the area monitoring potential flood threats.

The PSNI said they were looking into the incident.

It follows several days of intensive police work on both sides of the Border to track criminals involved in robberies and burglaries.
