Insurance firm to create 150 jobs

Jobs Minister Richard Bruton

Up to 150 jobs are to be created at an insurance firm over the next two years.

Liberty Mutual Insurance Group plans to expand its IT operations at its site in Blanchardstown, west Dublin.

The 150 new jobs will bring the total Liberty workforce in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland to more than 1,500.

Its IT operation in Belfast already supports Liberty Mutual worldwide, and the expansion will lead to the establishment of an IT help desk, a security operations centre and a software engineering unit.

Jobs Minister Richard Bruton said the international financial services sector has seen significant jobs growth.

"Today's announcement that Liberty, a world-leading company in this area, is establishing a new global operation in Dublin with the creation of 150 technology jobs is a further boost for the sector and for the economy," he said.

US giant Liberty Mutual took over the running of Quinn Insurance in May 2011, when it acquired 51% of Quinn Insurance's Irish operations.

It revealed it has bought the remaining 49% of the firm from Tutelana Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of the former Anglo Irish Bank, rebranded as the Irish Bank Resolution Corporation.

David H Long, Liberty Mutual's chairman and chief executive, said the boost highlights the firm's commitment to Ireland and to the country's talented workforce.

"We're pleased to strengthen Liberty's presence in Ireland by expanding our IT operations and consolidating our ownership of Liberty Insurance Limited," he said.

The Department of jobs, Enterprise and Innovation is supporting the investment through IDA Ireland.

Barry O'Leary, of IDA Ireland, said Liberty Mutual Insurance Group is a globally recognised name and a welcome addition to Ireland's international financial services sector.

"The company will grow its Irish team by adding highly skilled staff who will support the company's workforce across the globe," he added.

"In recent years, Ireland has become a hub for international insurance companies to establish global IT operations here."
