Gardai have said that during a one-hour checkpoint yesterday, they caught 89 drivers holding a mobile phone while driving.

Garda checkpoints took place in Dublin between 3-4pm yesterday.

"Those detected will be prosecuted by way of a Fixed Charge Penalty, incurring penalty points and fine of €60," gardai said today.

Meanwhile, gardai also carreid out breathchecks at a checkpoint on the N11 in Dublin yesterday - 33 tests were carried out but no offences were detected.

Nevertheless, gardai continue to relay the message: "Don't drink and drive"
