In brief: Rainbow Traveller gathering inspires journalist Whelan's New Age fable

Aengus Fanning, Editor of the Sunday Independent launched a new book, The Buddha of Ballyhuppahaun, by journalist John Whelan, at the Dunamaise Arts Centre in Portlaoise on Friday night.
The book, described as a New Age fable and written under the pen name of Johnny Renko, was inspired by the arrival of thousands of Rainbow Travellers in the Slieve Bloom Mountains near Rosenallis in the summer of 1993. The book will have its national media launch in the Kevin Kavanagh Gallery in Dublin by artist Mick O'Dea RHA on November 11 and will be available in all good bookshops.
Breast cancer expert at public talk
ONE of the world's leading cancer researchers will attend a public meeting on breast cancer in Dublin this week.
Dr Dennis Slamon's pioneering research led to the development of Herceptin, regarded as one of the most important cancer drugs in the past 20 years.
Dr Slamon will be in Dublin as a member of a national consortium that aims to co-ordinate research across different hospitals. The public meeting takes place at the Herbert Hotel at 7pm on Thursday.
