In brief: Fraud inquiry at Ulster Bank

Officers from the Garda fraud bureau are investigating suspected financial irregularities at Ulster Bank.

Detectives launched inquiries after the bank made a complaint about the disappearance of a large six-figure sum following an audit of transactions involving several branches and their HQ at George's Quay, Dublin. They are expected to interview a number of staff.

Gun probe after Malaga arrest

POLICE are examining a revolver they recovered after arresting an Irishman in a Costa del Sol neighbourhood.

The 44-year-old man was detained after allegedly trying to dispose of the weapon in a rundown part of Malaga when he spotted officers assisting a man nearby. Detectives are now checking firearms' databases across the country to see if they can link the gun to any crimes.
