Imagine upgrades its service

In a hard-hitting move in the telecoms price war, Imagine has upgraded the capacity of its network while offering services at 50 per cent cheaper than Eircom.

With no line rental charges for its advanced phone service, Imagine has sparked a price war with Eircom, who has admitted to losing 70,000 bill payers last year.

Led by telecoms entrepreneurs Sean Bolger and Brian O'Donohoe, the company has expanded its WiMax network across Dublin and has revealed that 4,500 new customers are subscribing every month across Ireland.

Industry sources now predict that Eircom could lose more customers as they switch to faster speeds and savings of over €400 per year.

The telecoms industry's technology and price manoeuvres highlight an increasingly contentious battle with phone and broadband companies for Ireland's residential market.

Households are increasingly ditching their old fixed-line internet connections and upgrading to faster, cheaper, always-on wireless broadband.

"Imagine is thrilled to bring consumers and businesses a super-fast internet and home phone experience at half the price of Eircom," said Brian O'Donohoe, Imagine's managing director.

Sunday Independent Comments Facility

INM has taken the decision to remove the commenting facility on its online platform to minimise the legal risk to our business that arises from Ireland's draconian libel awards system.

We continue to look forward to receiving comments through direct email contact or via social media, some of which may still be featured on the website
