'I'm lucky I have a job here'

CIRCUMSTANCES, with some good luck thrown in, led Colin Shanahan to make the decision to remain in his native village when most of his schoolmates were leaving.
Colin (26) says it isn't that he too doesn't experience wanderlust but he's also fortunate to be in full-time employment near his home in Lixnaw, north Co Kerry.
Colin has worked for Dairymaster in nearby Causeway for the past five months. Before that he worked with his dad in the family shop, Shanahan's Londis in Lixnaw.
Another consideration, of course, is that he's in a happy relationship with his girlfriend, Sophie Casey.
"It's a lot quieter at home all right since all the lads left," he says. "I'm lucky that I have a job here. If I didn't have that job, I'd have had to go, too."
