'I'll be your substitute'

Labour Senator Phil Prendergast missed out on a seat in Tipp South in the general election -- but she's still got a new job.
She's heading to the European Parliament because she has been chosen as the substitute candidate for Labour MEP Alan Kelly (a former Senator elected to the Dáil for Tipp North).
Fianna Fáil Senator Paschal Mooney has spotted this version of political musical chairs -- and joked that he wished he could have persuaded Pat 'the Cope' Gallagher to do the same.
Both had run for the European Parliament, but Mr Mooney would have been the substitute if Pat 'the Cope' had returned to save a seat for Fianna Fáil in Donegal South-West.
