Identities of sex offenders to be revealed
GARDAI are to be given new powers to make the identity of sex offenders known to potential victims, including new partners.
New measures being considered by the Department of Justice would allow those at risk to be told that their new partner is a paedophile or sex offender, and victims will be given a say when judges are deciding if bail should be granted.
The proposals being considered by the Government are at an early stage, and follow discussions with up to 90 agencies, including victims' groups, legal agencies and offender treatment groups.
The measures would allow gardai or probation officers to notify a person if they are aware that an offender is living with a new partner or has access to children.
