TODAY FM DJ Ian Dempsey has been given an Outstanding Achievement Award at the ‘Oscars’ of Irish radio.
The PPI awards are being held in Kilkenny this evening where awards are being given in all areas of Irish radio broadcasting including news, talk, sport, music and entertainment.
The evening started with the presentation of the coveted ‘Outstanding Achievement Award’ which went to the 30-year radio veteran.
Ian joins luminaries such as Michéal Ó Muircheartaigh, Jimmy Magee, Marian Finucane, Des Whelan, Gay Byrne, Larry Gogan, Mario Rosenstock, and Fiona Stack as Outstanding Achievement Award winners.
This year, 75 judges from Ireland and the UK had the task of selecting the finest in their field from a record number of entries, over 600, from almost every station broadcasting in the country.
The gala event has a record attendance of over 650 representatives from radio across the island of Ireland.
Amongst the awards up for grabs later tonight are Best Magazine programme which includes nominations for Moncrieff on Newstalk 106-108fm and Mooney on Mooney on RTÉ Radio 1. Breakfast with Hector on RTÉ 2fm has been nominated for Best Breakfast programme, along with FM104's Strawberry Alarm Clock .
Three radio stations share the nominations for Music Broadcaster of the Year - Dave Moore, Dermot Whelan and Ray Foley on 98 FM, KC on Today FM and Jim Jim Nugent on FM104.
