'I want to lose eight stone to get confidence back' - Celebrity Operation Transformation contestant on 'spiralling weight'
'Celebrity Operation Transformation' contestant Kayleigh Cullinan has said she hopes to lose up to eight stone to gain her confidence back.
The former 'Voice of Ireland' star said her weight has always been an issue for her but has "spiralled" in the last few years. She jumped at the chance to go on the RTÉ show. "I said yes straight away. I think I'm the only one who was actually excited to get a call from 'Operation Transformation'. I was dying to do it," she said.
"I have always struggled with my weight but in the last couple of years it has really spiralled."
Cullinan, who began the series weighing 20st 11.5lbs, believes her weight gain is mostly down to unhealthy eating habits, which she is confident she will have kicked by the end of the series.
"I was nervous going into the weigh in (in week one). You would be, in any situation like that," she told the Irish Independent.
Cullinan was the victim of a vicious bully she went to primary school with when she was 14.
The Drimnagh woman was attacked by her former classmate while a group of teens filmed the attack on their phones. The attacker pulled Cullinan's hair with such force that doctor's discovered the retina in her right eye had detached.
After several painful surgeries, the singer only has 10pc vision in her right eye.
"I didn't want to be around anybody. The recovery process for the surgery, I had to lie face down for 23 hours a day," she said.
With a new album on the way this year, Cullinan is ready to take on the rest of the show full force. "It's been great. It's going good," she said.
'Celebrity Operation Transformation' airs Wednesdays on RTÉ One at 9.30pm.
