A SCHOOLTEACHER and up-and-coming model has said she wants be a role model for young women from the traveller community – like ‘Voice of Ireland’ runner up Kelly Mongan.

Sarah Dunne, from Co Clare, plays two instruments and also is finishing her studies at Trinity College.

The 24-year-old has said that she hopes to put out a positive image of the travelling community.

“Like Kelly Mongan, I want to be seen as a modern traveller woman and want to be a role model for my generation”, she told The Star.

Kelly Mongan (20) came second on the RTE talent show last year, despite being heavily pregnant during the live shows.

“There are a lot of negative stereotypes about Travellers but I want to show that we are a vibrant, positive, talented and articulate community.

Sarah recently competed as Miss Trinity in the Miss University pageant.

“I’ve been doing modelling projects since I was 18 but I’d love to do it full time – I think I could achieve a lot for the Traveller community in terms of projecting a different image”, she said
