Hunger relief to be focus of overseas aid
THE Government will focus overseas aid on hunger in the coming years in a re-organisation of how relief is managed, writes Shane Hickey.
While the budget for overseas aid will not increase, Taoiseach Enda Kenny told a "Nutrition for Growth" conference in London that the amount of money spent on nutrition would double in the next eight years.
Some €32m of the €623m Irish aid budget this year will be spent on hunger. The Government aims to increase this to €64m by 2020.
