Huge crowds expected as Sarah's stylish Singles Party hits town again

Event organiser Sarah Benner is back with a bang, and this time she is bringing the Singles Party to the stylish West End House, Killarney, Co Kerry.

The previous events in Killarney drew huge crowds from all over the country.

Fund-raising trials for Carlanstown

St Michaels GFC are running a Hunter Trials over Carlanstown Cross Country Course on Sunday, October 9 to raise funds for recent development works at the club at Carlanstown, Kells, Co Meath.

The club is holding four main events on the Cross Country Course: Kiernan's Bar Open Singles, 1st prize €200; Carlanstown Cross Country Open Pairs, 1st prize €100 each; Mace Carlanstown Novice singles, 1st prize €150; Moran's Bar Novice Doubles, 1st prize €75 each.

On the day there will also be the Paddy Dunne-sponsored clear round show-jumping competition.

iPods up for grabs by teachers

This October, Encyclopaedia Britannica and Scoilnet are supporting the Children's Book Festival by running two nationwide competitions for Irish teachers and library members.

Teachers can win an exciting range of prizes by submitting their best lesson plans to the Scoilnet Education Portal. For library users between the ages of five and 12 and 13 and 18, an iPod nano 8GB and an iPod touch 8GB are the prizes up for grabs. A Britannica quiz will test their knowledge on all things Irish.

Beckett's publisher for national tour

Samuel Beckett's publisher John Calder, 84, will undertake a tour of Ireland beginning on Monday, October 10, at NUI Maynooth.

Calder, who published the works of 23 Nobel Prize winners will speak at a number of venues, including DCU, Trinity College, Cork, Galway, Belfast, Enniskillen, Schull, Dingle and Waterville in what promises to be a revealing, informative and entertaining tour.
