HSE in U-turn on epilepsy woman appeal
THE family of a young woman who was refused funding for life-saving epilepsy treatment have warned that justice will only be done when she receives the money to travel to the UK.
The warning came as the Health Service Executive reversed a decision not to hear an appeal by Grainne O'Connor (27), from Shanagarry, Co Cork, against her funding refusal because crucial documentation was delayed in the Christmas post.
The HSE had refused Grainne funding for her proposed UK treatment and then said it would not process her appeal because her letter arrived seven days after the deadline. But there is no guarantee she will get the funding she needs for her proposed UK treatment after the appeal.
