How it works

3UPC's new wi-fi service lets UPC broadband customers use the wifi broadband connection of other UPC broadband customers.
3In other words, if you're a UPC home broadband customer, you get a wifi login and password that you can use at another UPC broadband customer's home wifi network without asking permission.
3But the actual connection you will be accessing is a secondary broadband channel that is capped at 2.5 megabits per second
3About half of UPC modems are capable of providing this extra service, and it can be shared by up to five 'broadband visitors'. It won't dilute the original customer's speed, which is up to 200Mbs.
3Also, because the visitor is using a separate login, the process won't make the original UPC customer legally liable for illegal online activity, either.
3In total, 150,000 of the 330,000 UPC broadband customers have broadband equipment capable of delivering this service.
