THE country still has 7,000 too many hotel rooms and it means more hotels will close, Failte Ireland has warned.
In a new briefing paper, the agency paints a gloomy picture of the state of the hotel sector.
There are now 903 hotels, which amounts to more than 60,000 rooms in total, an increase of 35pc since 2005 even though foreign tourist numbers are now back to 2001 levels.
