HOSPITAL managers have warned staff that missed days at work due to bad weather must be taken as annual leave.
A policy of paying for hotel accommodation for staff who can't travel home due to snow has also been ended.
The warnings came from Letterkenny Hospital general manager Sean Murphy and director of nursing and midwifery Dr Anne Flood in a letter to staff.
"Non attendance at work due to weather conditions must be taken as unpaid leave, unless staff can swap shifts directly with another colleague," said the letter.
"Over the past two winters there were periods of heavy snow which affected some staff's ability to attend for work.
"The onus is on staff to attend for work and a full complement of staff is essential to ensure safe patient care."
Letterkenny General spent thousands last year paying for hotels for staff who couldn't get home due to heavy snow.
