Hospital hit by A&E strike

A busy accident and emergency department at a major hospital may struggle today when nurses hold a four-hour strike.

The HSE appealed to unions last night to call off the work stoppage at the emergency department of the Mid-Western Regional Hospital in Limerick, which has occurred over alleged under-staffing.

SIPTU said the A&E department will be manned by a minimum of four nurses at all times during the afternoon-long strike.

The work stoppage will take place between 1pm and 5pm.
