Hooptastic name for a Bhoy

YOUNG Mark Flood doesn't have to pretend to be any of his favourite footballers when he plays in the school yard.

That's because he is already named after a list of players from his beloved Celtic Football Club -- and they are all on his official birth certificate.

Mark's Celtic-mad dad Cathal decided to pay tribute to his favourite Celtic team -- the side that lost 3-2 to FC Porto in the UEFA Cup final in Seville in 2003.

The Donegal man was due to go to the game but couldn't because wife Jacinta was heavily pregnant. But when his first son finally arrived, he found the perfect way to honour his battling heroes.

And so he named his son Mark Henrik Sutton Hartson Bobo Cathal Andrew Flood; after Henrik Larsson, Chris Sutton, John Hartson and Bobo Balde.

Cathal, a security guard at Letterkenny General Hospital, had wanted to call his only son after the 11 players who took the field. But local priest Fr James Sweeney told Cathal he was taking his love of Celtic a little too far.

"In the end we settled on four names," said Cathal.

Unsurprisingly, Mark (7) has become huge fan of the club and has been to dozens of their games.

And his bedroom at home in Trimragh, Letterkenny, is a shrine to the club.

"He has met a lot of the players already and they have been very good with their time, giving him autographs and shirts," said Cathal.

But what do wife Jacinta and daughters Rachel (14) and Orla (12) think?

"I think they're every bit as mad about Celtic. It's all just a bit of fun and it's great that the entire family is into it," he said.

Cathal admits that his dream would be to see his only son play for Celtic some day.

"The only problem will be getting all his names on the back of his jersey," he said.
