Bob Geldof said he is not good at accepting awards as he received an honorary degree from Trinity College for his humanitarian efforts.

The Boomtown Rats frontman and Live Aid founder said he feels more pride when he receives accolades for his work as a musician, as it is his "vocation".

"It surprises me that I've ended up getting these things. You think, 'this is really weird'. I'm not good at the proud thing," he said.

"There's not much I'm proud about in my life. It's just stuff you do. Some of it works and some of it doesn't.

"The stuff that means most to me is when I get something for being a songwriter because that's what I do."
