LIVING alone in one of Ireland's prettiest small towns has turned into one man's worst nightmare.

Bagenalstown, Co Carlow, is located in the beautiful Barrow Valley but residents are being terrorised by vandals as young as 11.

Paddy Donoghue, from St Brigid's Crescent, is a quiet man. Neighbours say he is friendly and "minds his own business".

Yet Mr Donoghue has been consistently targeted by thugs who have smashed every window in his house.

Mr Donoghue has just been forced to have panes of glass replaced for a third time -- weeks after Carlow County Council replaced them all.

"Enough is enough," said local councillor Denis Foley.

"That poor man is plagued at his house. He's had every window in the house broken. The vandals are never far away," he said.

Mr Donoghue told Mr Foley that he simply cannot understand why he is being subjected to anti-social acts.

A friend of the victim, Cllr Tommy Bambrick, described the situation as "sad". He also pointed to ongoing problems with fires at a disused factory in the town.

"Young gurriers from 11 to 14 are responsible. But sure, what can gardai do only warn them off?" he said.
