Holly Carpenter was last night crowned Miss Ireland 2011. With luxuriant brown locks and a captivating smile, the 19-year-old who has recently emerged from the Keane dynasty accepted the crown in front of a large audience of family and friends.

Holly, who entered the competition as Miss University 2011, after being snapped up by Compton Model Agency was the bookies' favourite to win the competition. The granddaughter of Terry Keane will now go on to compete in the Miss World pageant in the UK this November.

Holly was among a host of young women who turned out last night for one of the social events of the year. The beauty queens showed they had the brains and courage to match their looks. One courageous contestant even refused to pull out of the show after being punched in the face in a road rage attack last week.

Last night's choreographed show at the Ballsbridge Inn, Dublin 4, featured aerial acrobatics, stunning fashion showcases and an eclectic mix of music and entertainment -- including music on the night from the boyband Element, who are currently in The X Factor 'bootcamp'.

As part of her coveted title, Holly will now receive a lucrative modelling contract and a host of prizes, including jewellry, gowns, a professional photo shoot, and the use of a brand new SEAT car for the year of her reign.

The show was hosted by Sinead Desmond from TV3's Ireland AM and Q102's Ray Shah, while the judging panel included international supermodel Sophie Anderton, former Miss Ireland Sarah Morrissey, trainer to the stars Paul Byrne and TV3 newscaster and midday presenter Elaine Crowley.

Holly will represent Ireland at this year's Miss World pageant, which will be held in the UK in November.
