Historical arms stash found

GRENADES and artillery shells dating back to the War of Independence were found during renovations on a house in a residential area.

The Army Bomb Disposal team was called to a house on Strandville Avenue, North Strand, Dublin, after the munitions were found under the floorboards in the house.

The house had been unoccupied for some time and was recently undergoing renovations.

The bomb team arrived on scene at 11.45am yesterday and made the munitions safe. They also thoroughly searched the house to make sure no other weaponry remained. The munitions were removed to a secure location for destruction.
