Hillwalkers' record climb

A THREE-MAN team of hillwalkers climbed into the history books yesterday when they set a new record for scaling Croagh Patrick.

Paul Davis and Dermot Curley set a new record for the most climbs up Croagh Patrick in a 24-hour period.

A third man, Tommy Costello, was forced to retire halfway up the ninth climb.

The record had stood at eight climbs in 23 hours, 55 minutes, but Mr Davis and Mr Curley completed nine treks in 21 hours, 55 minutes.
