High hopes for Joe's Fiver Friday

BROADCASTER Joe Duffy is expecting this year's Fiver Friday to prove the most successful to date.

The 57-year-old RTE presenter told the Irish Independent that with thousands of families across the country strapped for cash this Christmas, the national campaign is essential to given people a helping hand with their gift list.

The campaign asks customers to spend an extra €5 with a local business, retailer or supplier in an effort to boost turnover and save jobs.

One businessman going the extra mile tomorrow is retailer Alan Prendergast, whose seven Bargaintown stores are all participating in the event.

"We're giving away a number of children's beds and dinette tables and four matching chairs for a fiver," Mr Prendergast said.
