Higgins passes quota of votes needed

Michael D Higgins has now passed the 885,882 quota of votes needed to be elected president.
A fourth and final count is currently taking place and results have been announced in 19 of the 43 constituencies.
However, the official announcement of Mr Higgins' election will not take place until all constituencies have completed their counts, which is expected to be later this afternoon.
Once the presidential election count is completed, the count for the referendums on judicial pay and Oireachtas inquiries will begin.
While the amendment on reducing judges' pay is expected to be passed with a sizeable majority, the referendum on extending the remit of Oireachtas inquiries is believed to be too close to call.
