'He’s spent the week in hospital and from today we will know what the treatment is' - Gay Byrne's wife Kathleen thanks well-wishers
Gay Byrne’s wife, Kathleen Watkins has revealed her husband spent the week in hospital and thanked the public for their support.
Ms Watkins, a newly published children’s author, said the veteran broadcaster received a "deluge" of well-wishes after revealing his health fears.
Last Sunday Gay told listeners on Lyric FM that his doctors suspected he may have prostate cancer and feared it may also have spread to his back.
His other half said the family will know more from today about his treatment.

“I want to really say a big thank you to the nation for the deluge of cards, and well-wishes and phone-calls and everything else, beautiful messages and loving messages for Gay and he really appreciates it all and so do we in the family,” she told Live95 fm.
“He’s spent the week in hospital and he is coming home today and from today we will know what the treatment is.
“People have been so wonderful, I mean the support has been just amazing.
“Of course there isn’t a friend or a family any of us who hasn’t been touched by cancer in this country. And the treatments nowadays as you know have improved greatly and the important thing, I suppose, is for people always to be having a check up,” she said.
