Training for working with people with autism

Tens of thousands of State employees are to be given training for dealing with people diagnosed with autism.
The Government's autism strategy, seen by this newspaper, will involve gardaí, HSE officials and other public servants being given specific training for working with people with autism.
The plan is part of the Government's wider strategy to incorporate people with disabilities into the workplace.
Ensuring staff have access to autism awareness training is crucial to the Government's goals.
The plan will see the development of guidelines for the gardaí in relation to engagement with people with disabilities.
It is also proposes to include actions relating to specific Government Department, including Health, Public Expenditure and Justice.
An Autism awareness initiative - including a specific theme on autism - will be launched as part of the strategy.
"The current National Disability Strategy Implementation Plan which runs from 2013 to 2015, is a whole-of-Government approach to advancing the social inclusion of people with disabilities," the document states.
