Mary 'feels like new woman' after weight loss

AFTER years of enjoying cakes and dairy products, Mary Ainsworth said that she feels like "a new woman" as she has lost more than three stone.

The Dublin woman said she was just accompanying a friend to a Slimming World class in Glasnevin last October when her life changed for ever.

By making a few simple dietary changes, the 70-year-old has lost 45lbs and said that she feels completely different, both inside and out.

"I would say I was overweight," the mother-of-four admitted, revealing that it was only in the past two years that she noticed her weight had slowly begun to creep up on her.

"I didn't realise that I had a big bum and a big tummy, because I always wore clothes that were the next size up," she said.

"I used to drink two litres of milk per day. I am not a big sweet eater, but I would have eaten a piece of cake every evening after my dinner. I haven't eaten a piece of cake since last October."

She has now started to eat lower fat products, as well as cutting alcohol out completely.

Apart from enjoying a leisurely walk, increasing her exercise rate wasn't an option, as she has two artificial hips.

Almost 10 months into her weight-loss journey, the grandmother said: "I feel a million dollars, in every way."
