'Keep children out of canals'

PARENTS are being warned not to allow their children swim in the Royal and Grand Canals and the Liffey in Dublin.
It comes after a Dublin mother claimed her son contracted a flesh-eating bug as a result of swimming at the Grand Canal. The recent run of good weather has encouraged many people, especially children and teens to go swimming.
Meanwhile, E-coli was detected in the water off of Bettystown beach, Co Meath, a favoured bathing spot for families and youngsters during the warm weather. Tests earlier this week indicated raised levels of the bacteria. However, on Friday the popular beach was confirmed as being clear of E-coli.
