The union are now expected to serve formal strike notice on the HSE and other health employers today.

The industrial action is set to begin on Tuesday, December 15.

The vote comes after months of continued overcrowding and inadequate resources in some of the country's busiest A&E departments.

The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation balloted members for industrial action amid the frustration this afternoon.

INMO General Secretary Liam Doran said the industrial action will involve strikes.
