A family who lost two daughters at Portiuncula Hospital has called on the Minister for Health to take real action at a national level to deal with the growing number of incidents at the country's maternity units.
Warren Reilly, pictured with his wife Lorraine, said that serious problems with maternity services are systemic throughout the country. Following the latest baby death at Cavan General Hospital, Mr Reilly called for immediate action. "I want to see the minister take full responsibility for putting in place a proper system to monitor maternity services. Senior members of the HSE also need to step up and take responsibility.
"It's just very hard to take. It feels like if the families who have lost babies weren't fighting for change, nothing would be done," he said.
