Former Ireland international Damien Duff says soccer here is set to benefit from a new medical initiative that offers expert medical care to players from around 700 clubs around the country.

The scheme is a joint initiative from the Beacon Hospital and First Ireland and will allow for a range of treatments for footballers whose clubs are covered by the insurer’s personal accident cover.

Duff said that anything that “gets players back on the pitch quicker” should be welcomed. The initiative is being headed by Beacon consultant and Ireland team doctor Alan Byrne.
