50 new pharmacies open but no increase in complaints

ALMOST 50 new pharmacies opened across the country last year, the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland (PSI) has announced.

The number of pharmacy inspections has also increased, but the number of complaints made against pharmacists is the exact same as last year, according to the society's annual report for 2013.

There were 1,818 pharmaceutical businesses operating here last year – 34 more than in 2012.

Some 47 new outlets opened up last year which is an increase of two on the previous year.

The PSI, which is the regulatory body for pharmacists, received 48 formal complaints last year which is the exact same number as 2013.
