Health minister Leo Varadkar has revealed that he would consider "retraining" as a medical " first responder".
While taking a question on the capacity of the National Ambulance Service, he warned Caomhin O Caolain and Billy Kelleher, health spokespersons for Sinn Fein and Fianna Fáil respectively - as potential health Ministers in waiting - to "be careful what you promise".
"It will never be possible to have a squad car, a fire brigade and an ambulance at every crossroads in Ireland," said Minister Varadkar.
