A giant teddy bear is probably the last thing motorists driving through Mountbellew in Co Galway expected to see.

The 12-foot high teddy is the idea of agricultural contractor Martin Fleming who put the entire creation together in three hours.

Martin has been working flat out, making the most of the fine weather and decided to have a little bit of fun with his teddy bear.

"I suppose we did it for the craic, but we can't get over the attention it has been getting. It's animal," he said.

Passers-by have been pulling up every few minutes to take hundreds of photographs.

The teddy bear is made of round and square bales of hay, with a dab of paint to highlight the face, hands and feet.

"I have children myself and they all loved it, so I can see why kids want to stop and have a look," said Martin.
