Happy Pear duo get juices flowing in time for Valentine's

Boys will be boys and there were lots of eagle-eyed males wandering around the lingerie department of Brown Thomas, Grafton Street last Thursday night. Those who weren't buying luxurious silky smalls appeared to be in a well-ordered, and very fragrant I might say, queue at the Jo Malone counter where their Red Roses cologne was most definitely the 'scent du jour' in the run up to Valentine's next weekend.

The swarm of ladies I met in the lift only had eyes for two particular men as the Happy Pear boys, identical twins David and Stephen Flynn from Greystones, were in for a special healthy eating evening held at BT's restaurant.

I'm not in the least bit surprised that Jamie Oliver has signed them up to be part of the JamiesFoodTube family along with our own Weekend mag hero, Donal Skehan, who was in flying form when he called me from London.

Clean-living certainly brings moments of genius. Stephen Flynn was fasting on Corsica when he got the brainwave to buy the local veg shop and the rest, as they say, is history.

Wheeling down Grafton Street, I spied chef Andrew Rudd (pictured left) from Medley on Drury Street who has just done a shoot with Humans of Dublin, a project which was inspired by the success of Humans of New York (HONY).

Dublin seems to be thoroughly loved up as Andrew knows only too well. He told me that he has two Valentine's nights at Medley next Friday and Saturday. And on the theme of romance, he is hosting a wedding showcase party between Feb 18-20 "because we are taking in so many weddings bookings."

The Medley venue has been nominated for Best City Vibe in Bash wedding magazine and after the success of his self-published Entertaining with Andrew Rudd book, the chef is currently working on a second cookery tome. Plus there's talk of a TV show in India in either April or May. Busy boy!
