School's still out for summer for the under-12s -- but you don't have to be in class to learn a thing or two.
Our picture by Daragh McSweeney shows local children Louis Millar (8), Ruben Maloney (6) and Ottilie Millar (5) with archaeologist Jonski Millar.
They are investigating a Bronze Age funerary food vessel, in Headland Archaeology, Little Island, Co Cork, as part of National Heritage Week, which ends on Sunday.
More than 1,200 events are planned for the week that will involve local and national libraries, national cultural institutions, NGOs, museums and a range of community groups.
The majority of events have free entry.
Heritage Council spokeswoman Isabell Smyth said while much of the ethos of the week had remained the same in recent years, the council had sought to change it into a more family-orientated event this year.
