GUNMEN have attacked an EU military training base in Bamako, Mali where Irish soldiers are stationed.
The attack happened at a hotel which has been converted into a training camp for a European Union mission.
Witnesses have reported that one of the gunmen was killed during the attack.
A spokesman for the Defence Forces said that all Irish personnel are safe following the incident.
There are 10 personnel stationed in Mali as part of the European Union Training Mission and just three of those are based in Bamako, the capital.
Irish soldiers have been involved in the EU mission since February 2013 and the Chief of Staff recently visited troops stationed there on March 02.
