Guitar man Dave kicks off record-breaking attempt
AN Irish musician is aiming to become the ultimate guitar hero by playing for more than 100 hours in a row -- and beat a world record in the process.
Dave Browne (43) from Castleknock in Dublin yesterday kicked off his record attempt in the Temple Bar pub in Dublin and hopes to continue until Thursday evening.
The bid will see him on stage continuously with other musicians for four days and nights.
The current record is held by an Argentinian man and stands at 100 hours.
A regular musician at the pub, Mr Browne suggested the idea to the bar's manager Martin Deegan last October and the pair have been putting in the groundwork since.
He aims to play through the night, after the pub has closed, with two singers, as they are watched by four independent observers.
For every hour he plays, he is entitled to a five-minute break, which he intends to build up until morning for a rapid sleep and shower break.
The guitarist has been training with celebrity fitness expert Karl Henry over the past few months and has shaved five inches off his waist in preparation for the marathon feat.
Alongside him at all times are apples and jelly babies to provide him with an energy boost if needed.
Staff are also on hand to give him massages if needed, said Mr Deegan.
"Dave is a very positive guy," he added.
