Guidelines on abortion ready in weeks: Reilly
THE long-awaited guidelines for doctors and other health professionals on the working of the new abortion legislation should be ready in a few weeks, according to Health Minister James Reilly.
The legislation, allowing for limited abortion where there is a risk to the mother, including suicide, was passed in July – but an expert group has yet to finalise guidelines in certain areas such as referral between various health professionals.
Meanwhile, the White Paper on universal healthcare insurance will not be published for a number of weeks to allow for issues raised at cabinet level to be clarified, he said.
Dr Reilly also expressed confidence that free GP care for the under sixes will be in place by June or July, despite opposition from doctors' organisations.
