GSOC probes complaint that garda 'lied' to assault victim
THE Garda Siochana Ombudsman Commission (GSOC) is investigating a complaint that a member of the gardai lied to the victim of a vicious assault that a number of court dates had been scheduled for the case.
A 26-year-old woman lodged a formal complaint with the ombudsman after claiming that a garda in Galway had lied to her at least five times that her case was to be heard at the District and Circuit courts.
After contacting both the District and Circuit courts, the woman discovered that none of the hearings had ever been scheduled to take place.
The mother-of-one, who did not wish to be named, was assaulted by three women in Galway in September 2009.
