Grindr is the world's largest gay social network app marketed towards gay and bisexual men to help them meet like-minded people for friendship, dating or sexual encounters.
The app, which is free of charge, boasts over two million daily active users in 196 countries. Members must be aged over 18.
Using GPS technology, Grindr shows users a grid of pictures of other male users, arranged from those closest geographically to those furthest away. Tapping on a picture will display a profile of the user and the option to chat and send pictures.
Users can save men as favourites and block ones that aren't their type. They can also identify as a member of a 'tribe' on the app that best describes their 'sexy type', including Bear, Daddy and Jock.
If deciding to meet up, men can easily share their location. Grindr has been blocked in some countries including Turkey, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
